Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) is a Rotary International project with a proven record of personal development and leadership for young people. In RI District 1080 we run a RYLA Course which is highly regarded by Candidates, local business, local voluntary agencies, and our Rotary Clubs.

RYLA gives young people the opportunity to expand their horizons by developing team work and team building  experience, increasing self-confidence, in addition to obtaining new skills and developing old ones, and returning a young person with enhanced attributes to benefit their current or future employer. Participants learn to work effectively as part of a team, discover the benefits of delegation, discover unexplored individual skills and work to tight deadlines individually and within a team framework.

It specifically caters for male and female candidates in the age range 18-26 years from a variety of social and educational backgrounds.  The majority are either employed, in the education system or in a formal placement in the voluntary sector. The course is of one week’s duration at The Grafham Water Centre. Is fully residential and includes a wide variety of indoor and outside based activities, physical and academic demands consistent with challenging each and every individual. Each team has a professional facilitator, supported by fully qualified instructors and lecturers, working to provide a supportive but challenging environment.

The week is designed to take the delegates out of their individual comfort zones, to recognise and develop them as individuals and team members and leaders. Each day finishing with an individual and team reviews to embed learning.
